We went back, and it was boring.

We went back to how it was, and it was terrible and boring. We acted like we were desperately in need of reproducing. We kept living like we had to consume. We forced the traditional nuclear family.

We went back to how it was, and women made the best of their situations, their jealous husbands. Their genius came out in other ways. Their husbands never got over it. They kept trying to crush their dreams, but it was like stepping on a glass bottle, like walking on marbles.

We went back to how it was, and the men weren’t happy, either. They knew their ideas and success came from their wives. They never got over it. Their kids treated them with indifference and their mothers with love. They died and their kids shrugged. They never got to evolve as men. They died knowing their failures.

We did it for the loud men, and they weren’t even happy, either.

We went back to how it was, like a kid resetting a video game so they can play the easy levels again. We never got to see what happens next. We never got to see what happens in a society where women don’t have to sacrifice for the species to continue. We never got to evolve beyond gender. We never were allowed to move past sex. Past consumption.

Into art and science.

No, it just went right back to the tutorial, right back to their easiest level, because they complained the loudest.

We went back, and it was cruel, and innovative, and people hid their gender, and had back alley abortions, and found ways to live their dreams by posing as men, by using men as shields.

But it was also…kind of boring.
