Before and After/Memorial ball and cues collage by Micheal

It was a beat-up Brunswick pool table. Torn felt, scratched sides, and obvious signs of use and abuse. We discovered later that there were chunks of slate missing near the pockets.

The owner wanted to get rid of it and offered to sell it to my son for $100. Where else could we get a table for that price? Nowhere. So, me and my best friend each put in half for the table and my son asked a friend to deliver it.

I knew pool tables were heavy, but I had no idea how heavy. Getting it the short distance from the truck to the garage took five of us. We had to be careful not to damage it in the process.

It took us a while, but we managed to repair the poor pool table. We replaced the felt, tightened the pockets to Diamond table standards, and repainted the top and sides. Sure, we used lower-end material and spray paint, but we poor folk work with what we can. In the end, it looked great. At least to us.

We put our names on the sides. Mine, my best friend, and my two sons. My youngest son died before we got the table, so putting his name on it was also a memorial to him. He loved to play as much as we did.
