When you look
at yourself
in the mirror,
I hope you see
a beautiful you.

I hope you see
how you have broken free,
from the chains that
once held you down.

I hope that you see
a free spirit
that’s capable of
so much more than you
give it credit for.

I hope you see
a reflection that
you pride in —
whose shadow
you can count on
when all else fails.

I hope you see
the side of you
that’s gotten through
the worst of all storms —
the side of you
that pushed
through it all.

I hope you see
the journey
that led you here —
paved with hurdles,
challenges
and who knows what else.

I hope you look
into your eyes
with the belief that
you can do absolutely
anything you set your mind to.

I hope your tears
wash away every ounce of
the self-doubt you wrestle with
every single day
instilling a sense of
confidence in you.

I hope that the years
that have passed you
no longer bring you pain
or regret —
but instead
serve as anchors that
help you stay grounded.

I hope that you see
that you are so wonderfully unique
and I pray that no harm of any kind
befalls you.

I hope that you see
the person you have become —
I hope you see
the person you can be —
Most importantly,
I hope you see
the person you didn’t become
if not for the mountains
you have had to climb.
