Let Go

A Poem by Natasha Kurien

Let go,
of more than you hold on to —
release the heavy baggage
that you have been
lugging around,
watching as it swings
between your legs,
tripping you.

Unclench your fists
and release the anger,
the hate, the betrayal,
the untold stories,
the forgotten promises,
the what-ifs,
and most importantly—
the guilt
of not having given more.

Release the bundled up
thoughts that
weigh heavy on your
shoulders
reducing the confidence
with which you hold
yourself up.

Let go of
the storyline
with imagined endings,
tweaked beginnings,
and hollow plots
traded in for
depth and meaning
that only
touch the surface
of actual living.

Release the past —
the reminiscing mind
sprinkles far too much
optimism and hope
on the events that were –
shifting focus from
the throes of the now.

Set yourself free
from the ripples of the past
that propagate through time
into the sanctity of the now
as your mind serves as a conduit,
taking it further than
you should.

Burying yesterday
is easier said than done,
but let that not stop you
from breaking free
from the chains
that pull you
further away from reality.

Open your heart
and your mind,
to this wonderful moment,
to this irreplaceable feeling
of being here,
as it reminds you
of the fragility
and possibility
of a better tomorrow –
which can only begin
if you take that step
today,
if not right now.
