Combate Americas Going Old School with Copa Combate
A one night, eight man tournament will take place November 11 in Cancun Mexico when Combate Americas holds its first tournament. The prize, 100,000 dollars to the winner and one bantamweight contender has already entered.
John Castaneda, who recently fought on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series is one of the notable competitors in the tournament. Prior to Dana White’s fight pass show, Castaneda was a regular competitor for the promotion and would have been its first champion when Combate Americas held its first event in New York state. However, since the young fighter missed weight and still won, he could not be crowned champion.
Overall, Castaneda is on a nine-fight win streak and will have to win three fights in one night to win this tournament.
If the formula sounds familiar it is because it is being held on the 24th anniversary of UFC 1, which was executive produced by Combate Americas CEO and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) co-founder, Campbell McLaren.
