Fernando Gonzalez Wants in The PFL

The Professional Fighters League has begun their selection process and Fernando Gonzalez (27–16) wants in. The Team Quest fighter hates inactivity and knows after observing the first season of the PFL play out, not only will he get his wish of having a solid series of fights lined up, but he won’t have to travel too far to earn his keep.

Gonzalez last fought in May when he lost a decision to Piotr Strus and before that lost a decision to Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 193. His fight against Michael “Venom” Page at Bellator 165 he lost by split decision but he followed that up with two consecutive victories over Brandon Girtz and Brennan Ward. While Gonzalez does have a fight lined up this Friday, March 9 at CXF 17 in Southern California, his hopes are that picking up win will gain the attention of the PFL and get him in the second round of the selection process which includes new challengers and returning contenders.

“If I can stay in the states, I’m going to try to stay in the states,” said Gonzalez. He added that 2018 light heavyweight finalist; Vinny Magalhaes is an old training partner of his and put in a word for him. Gonzalez added, “I’m on a losing streak right now so I got to get a win.” Gonzalez hopes a win at CXF 17 will get him added to the welterweight roster in the PFL.

The interesting thing about his fight with Page is that Gonzalez did a breakdown before Bellator 216 and predicted the outcome. After the fight during the post-fight media scrum, Page brought up the fight with Gonzalez as one of the more frustrating fights in his career. Gonzalez may feel like a brawler but he is certainly a more cerebral fighter than he lets on to be.
