SDG 10: Reduced inequalities

Sustainable development goal (SDG) 10 — the reduction of inequality within and among countries — is dependent on the progress of many of the other SDGs, like those focused on job, wealth and infrastructure creation, and improved access to education. According to the UN, although there has been significant progress in narrowing disparities of opportunity, income and power, income inequality continues to rise in many parts of the world.

Those who are worst affected by this inequality find themselves living in poverty. When documenting the theme of this SDG, those living in impoverished conditions are often the subject of the story, utilised as a visual demonstration of why this societal inequality cannot continue.

It is important to make use of different mediums when telling these stories. Audiences can become desensitised to photographs and text, so a combination of video and animation will help to tell the story in a different and potentially more engaging way, ensuring an audience stays connected to an appeal.

The GSMA mobile money programme aimed to increase financial inclusion amongst women in Mali and Cote d’Ivoire. Using a variety of storytelling techniques to engage different audiences, we created films, photos and animations to highlight the work for the GSMA and the impact mobile money has on reducing financial inequality.
