Has Technology Done More Harm Than Good?

A Crucial Discussion

In a world where we have the technology to make everything perfect, I wonder if we truly need this perfection in question. Everyone wants to be perfect ( well not everyone exactly) and I wonder why.

People want to live up to an expectation setup by the society. A very unrealistic kind of perfection. In search of this perfection, many people live lies, kill themselves, steal and commit other inconceivable atrocities.

Striving towards this standard set up by the society, some girls take to starving to achieve the “perfect weight” and “perfect body shape” which leads them slowly to their demise if care is not taken. While some use numerous layers of beauty products to meet this standard of beauty set by the society.

To say that technology has not been a major propagator of this craze for perfection will be a lie. The presence of technology has robbed this present generation of far more they can think of because we have not taken the initiative to use technology as a tool and not be its slave.

Many people have lives on the internet that they are too preoccupied with their virtual lives to live out their real ones. I find it disturbing when I see young people so preoccupied with their online lives, fame and search of perfection that they forget to actually go out and make real friends or get involved with their immediate community.

Many teenagers today no longer think. The internet does all the thinking for them, tells them how to behave and even how to feel. This seems quite absurd but it is the bitter truth.

If the youths and teenagers of this present day are the leaders of tomorrow, how can we have teenagers who no longer think for themselves become the leaders of tomorrow that they are expected to be.
Can we have the internet thinking for them?
Will we continue to live with the discoveries and ideas made during the time of our parents?
No,we cannot because we have to keep on thinking because man is constantly evolving and our generation has to be prepared to take on the challenge of adapting to whatever change might come our way in the future and the only way we can do that is if we think for ourselves now.

The irony of the lives many people have on the internet is that when they truly are in need of anything remotely realistic, their internet friends are not going to be there in real life to come to their aid.

My solution is this, we should use technology as a tool and not be used by technology.

P.S. I am not an adult who understands everything . I am a sixteen year-old girl who believes that life is what we make it and that this generation can make the world a better place if we do our best and continually strive to become even better versions of ourselves.
