Today’s youth are ready to break and make changes globally. They are filled with unlimited energy and potential to become successful in all fields of life. They seek out challenges, innovation and creativity.

However, due to increasing unemployment and inequality in our society, these skilled young individuals are left behind. In addition, our youth are three times more likely to stay unemployed despite possessing developed skills, causing it to become one of the most crucial issues faced by societies across the world.

To raise awareness regarding such a significant problem, the United Nations designated July 15th as World Youth Skills Day. This day help highlights the current rising unemployment among youth and what steps need to be taken so that the situation is controlled globally. The United Nations states:
“At least 475 million new jobs need to be created over the next decade to absorb the 73 million youth currently unemployed and the 40 million new annual entrants to the labor market.”
This showcases that job creation is vital to the survival of youth across the world. Moreover, encouraging youth’s potential through skilled abilities will make them capable of creating accessible platforms that allows them to gain access to changing economies, building working empires that lead to more employment opportunities.

education and training are key determinants of success in the labor market”

“The international community has set an ambitious 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It calls for an integrated approach to development which recognizes that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions; combating inequality within and among countries; preserving the planet; creating inclusive and sustainable economic growth; achieving full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men; and ensuring full gender equality and fostering social inclusion, are interdependent.”- United Nations

Now, there are several queries on the implementation of the 2030 agenda and how to make it successful. Education and training are the central phenomenon of the agenda by the UN, stating that it “Ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all”. The 2030 agenda will focus on ensuring vocational and technical skills development, easy access to TVET (technical and vocational education and training), decent work opportunities, entrepreneurship and eliminating gender disparity across the globe. According to the UN 2030 agenda, TVET is more likely to bring an awareness by promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth and provide help to young adults.

In this fast-moving world, some of our youth struggle and face violence, vulnerability and low labor wages. Unfortunately, our self-consumed society may not be able to reflect on it quickly enough and the younger generation will face the consequences. Due to the lack of opportunities and choices available today, the younger generation is likely to become depressed and lose hope. However, there is always hope in finding the solution and it starts with YOU.

Thanks to the commemoration of the WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY, we as a community can acknowledge the issues raised and come together on one platform. Furthermore, we at ARISE Impact fundamentally believe in the above ideology, empowerment and inclusiveness for all.
