Every year more than 250 developers, CTOs and other technology enthusiasts attend the Modern Technologies and Services conference, in Maribor, Slovenia. This is one of the regions leading tech conferences for the last 23 consecutive years. As the new ARK core v2 was released just prior to the event, this was a perfect opportunity to present the ARK technology stack to the experts and gather their valuable feedback.

ARK was presented by our core-engineer Kristjan Košič with the help of community delegate Rok Halužan. We want to thank Rok for his participation.

The conference was a two day event, packed with interesting talks and workshops built around software architecture, information system designs in general and of course blockchain technology (see full program here and gallery here).

ARK also published a paper titled “Building an open-source blockchain ecosystem with ARK” which is already featured in the conference proceedings and will be available online with assigned DOI and ISSN numbers.

The rest of this post was written by Kristjan and his hands-on experience at the OTS.

Day-1: ARK Presentation — Opening Day

On day one, ARK was presented in the starting blockchain section. Topics covered were building an open source (OSS) ecosystem with ARK’s technology stack and what are the building blocks of a successful OSS project. We presented the history of digital cash and connected all the important innovations in this area with OSS technology and innovation it enables — substantiated by a living example of a working OSS ecosystem — the ARK Ecosystem.

As ARK is an open-source project, we built our slides as an OSS project.
The content is available here: https://gitpitch.com/kristjank/ark-presentation. We used the power of GitPitch.com with markdown to deliver the content.

Day 2: Hands on Workshop — Using ARK To Build Your Own Blockchain

On day 2 we had a presentation and a workshop based on ARK’s technology stack. Attendees learned the basics of ARK technology, and we did several live demos on v1 (ACES for interoperability and ARK-Deployer for launching your own chain) and with the new core v2 technology stack. Participants learned how to (see supporting slides here):

  1. Deploy and configure your own blockchain with the Ark-Deployer
  2. Establish a working developer environment with Ark-Core v2 and docker
  3. How to start you own v2 chain in development mode (testnet)
  4. Develop your own plugin
  5. Setup ACES and execute ACES smart contract with ACES.

As always, delegates played an important role in the event. Kristjan was joined by Rok Halužan who helped prepare the ACES content (demo, ACES slides and a brand new reusable ACES docker image).

There was great interest from the developer community and we had lengthy discussions and follow ups long after the workshop ended.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated and expressed interest in our technology. These kind of events are a great opportunity for us to display and evaluate our technology. More importantly, we listen to the needs and suggestions of experienced developers who are starting to build blockchain solutions.

Special thanks to the organizators of OTS ITC conference for delivering such a professional event and we hope to be regular participant in the upcoming years.

Only by listening, improving and growing together can we deliver our vision and promise of being the WordPress of Blockchains!
