2020 took us by surprise. It shook our fundamentals, challenged our way of being, disrupted our planned-out frenetic lives. It forced us to stop, think, re-think and find solace in different ways of engaging. Whilst many were happy to wave a solid goodbye to the year, I felt quite differently and wanted to take a different approach. I am certainly not talking about the constant fear for our health and our loved ones. That yes, we can gladly leave behind thanks to the hope which the vaccines have reinstilled. But I refuse to think that 2020 was a ‘waste of a year’ and am adamant to carry forward lessons learnt.

Lessons such as the need for flexibility and adaptability. The ability to take control of all unprecedented situations. The possibility to adopt different business models where and when required. Luckily enough, our research in this department had started before the pandemic settled in. Both internally as a company, and also in terms of products and services offered to our clients. It was always our intention — in fact — to invest more time, energy and resources into our new cloud platform because we truly believe that offering a flexible solution on this level to businesses — be it start-ups or more established set-ups — will bring about significant difference in the way businesses operate. 2020 has only accelerated this process and made the (until then) hypothetical work models a reality.

We have not just embraced remote working as a quick-fix solution but understood its relevance and the possibilities it offers in terms of higher productivity, a better work-life balance as well as the environmental and well-being benefits it could potentially lead to. We have also learnt that whatever the situation, businesses need a solid IT framework in order to function properly. In such a context, cloud platforms become even more significant. And whilst the market offers several options in terms of cloud platforms and products, we believe that what we have created truly embraces flexibility. And that is why our plan for 2021 is to develop this even further and add more exciting and innovative products on the Arkafort Cloud.

And when embracing change, you also have to know and appreciate more your constant. Your core values. Yet again 2020 helped us understand these even more, and 2021 will see us consolidating them. So far, we have focused most of our efforts on building a foundation on which to run our operations, invest in technical know-how, prioritise customer service. Throughout these past years we have experimented, discussed and carried out projects and gained enough knowledge to be in a better position to focus on truly fulfilling our mission; and that is making technology accessible to everyone. To simplify complexity.

Rather than aiming for a ‘new’ normal, let us aim for a better one. In 2021, we look forward to consolidating efforts and collaborations, to build on what is already there in the cloud platform by introducing new products, to communicating our values further and to continue assisting you with creating the best possible framework for your business.
