It feels good to be hopeful bout AHS again.

American Horror Story Season 12 is out, and I’m feeling cautiously optimistic. After last year’s AHS NYC, I was starting to feel a little hopeless. It wasn’t scary, it wasn’t campy, we were already missing some of our favorite cast members (Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy) and it was basically a police procedural. It had a few cool moments, but it just didn’t feel like AHS.

A body horror story about pregnancy, though? That does sound scary. Terrifying, even. Also, maybe campy, with a few of those unexpected moments of emotional maturity AHS is good at surprising us with. Adding the stress, fear, and worry over IVF outcomes could ramp the paranoia and fear up, for sure.

In Episode 1 we meet Anna Alcott (Emma Roberts) an actress whose recent indie flick role lifts her out of B-lister status. She’s trying to balance this unexpected, huge boost in fame with her already in progress IVF. She’s married to a widower named Dexter (Matt Czuchry) and he seems…off. He talks with Anna’s OB doc (Denis O’Hare) as if she’s not there, and it gave big-time Rosemary’s Baby vibes. Ick.

Everyone was expecting Kim Kardashian to be terrible. She’s not. She was even pretty good. She fits into the privileged, pretty-people set that AHS has been featuring…
