The Millers — 2015/16 First XI

As you could imagine money were tight at Rotherham, we had a 252.000 euro starting budget so selling some players to raise funds was quite mandatory, unfortunately the only valuable asset at my disposal was our left winger Danny Ward, Wolves offered 2 M and he was immediately sold, I didn’t rate him so much.

Then it was time to fill the holes in my squad, notably up top where, playing 4–2–4, at least 5 players were required just to have a decent rotation, the Championship is a long and exhausting league, you go nowhere without two players per role.

Clarke-Harris, Derbyshire and Ledesma were the only otions available for the attacking spots as Leon Best is too injury prone and doesn’t suit my system well, Luciano Becchio is 7 months out.

Total 2.2 M
Total 1.3 M

All the players on loan, Ojo apart, have an agreed price clause: Perraud (1.9 M), Kraev (2 M) and Odsonne Edouard (9 M).

Bulgarian tireless midfielder Gamakov will rotate with captain Smallwood in the box to box role, while Stevenson is a good cover for Joe Mattock, not many players were interested in joining the Millers so I’m glad with these ones.

I’m particularly happy with Adam Zrelak signing, a versatile Slovakian right winger/striker who joined from Slovan Bratislava.

Stay tuned.
