As a kid growing up in the 90s, the proverbial message spouted from parents and teachers was we could be anything we wanted to be when we grew up. And once we found our dream jobs, work would never feel like “work” for the rest of our lives. That message likely spoiled our generation and gave way to some degree of disillusionment with adult reality, but I suppose the intent was nice.

Today, many people fantasize about getting rich quickly. And then living the easy life without any inconvenience. By default, we attach this expectation that life should be easier than it is, so that our children can live easier lives. We fantasize that our life path will be perfect and direct, with very few detours and accidents. That good things will come around eventually.
