The Quest To Become A Modern-Day Buddha
I’ve had to destroy many things. Combining elements of real altruism, stoicism, and other philosophies. I’m still trying.
I was at a lovely California vineyard wedding a few weeks ago. During a short reprieve from the heat under the dark light of a summer moon, I had a smoldering chat with an old friend to catch up about life. “Hector” was complaining about the soaring cost of childcare, inflation, gas prices, grocery bills, and so forth. Keep in mind he’s a multi-millionaire too and runs a business, so I nodded my head since even someone like him is feeling the pinch in today’s economy. Everyone can relate.
But then Hector brought up other items on his laundry list: his live-in nanny, his new Tesla Model X, private school for his kids, ribeye steaks, and nice wines/sakes. I mentioned one can still find a dozen regular white eggs for $2.99-$3.99 at Trader Joe’s as well as good deals on frozen packs of chicken thighs at my local NYC grocery chain; that’s what I commonly cook with at least.
