Every trader I know big or small, DeFi DYOR maxis or bro meme coin monster, they all use spreadsheets to manage their positions. This is insane! It’s like managing a national power grid with powerpoint. But it’s the goto tool for most, the types of investments vary so much and the blockchain is a crappy DB, more on that later.

This is a simple startup founder ah-ha moment journalists write about 20 years and 10 billion dollars later. But it’s the reality, even if you rely on external tools, 99% will not do everything you need. Dbank is great but doesn’t support Solana, the DEX I have LP tokens from is not supported on Pulsar. As a result you end up with a complete mess of Dune, Dbank and xVerse for BTC and Ordinals but UniSat for Runes… etc. After 6 months of bouncing around, most people serious about their investing end up with a spreadsheet. Sure it’s shit, but it’s better than the alternative.

This is the flow of thinking that Armor was born out of. We need a way to — in human terms — be able to interact with a wallet that does track all of your investments. A wallet that — wait for it — can tell you the current profit on all your investments. Maybe even tell you want your entry price was.

This is where AI comes into play. You can use AI for a lot of things but it really excels when it’s there to support a humans in keep track of a large amount of data and then return that data to a user in the way they need it at that moment. This is what the vision of Armor is, as of the wirting of this article.

We are not building Armor to forecast the future, to tell us if BTC will go up or down tomorrow. While this is a noble goal, there are bigger problems to be solved. Armor is being built to give you all of the information in the crypto world processed in a way for you to understand and explore the data via voice to plain english text. I don’t need to know the price of BTC tomorrow. I need to know what the entry price of my $Pepe bag was as a weighted average based on all past buys.

Armor is the R2-D2 of your crypto investing adventure. It will not fight Darth Vader, you still have to do that. But it will save the day and shoot you your lightsaber when you need it.

Armor will be a success when we can achieve this:

Use 10ETH and DCA into $SOL over the next 3 months. Only DCA if the
price of SOL goes up less than 6% in day.

Or how about this one:

Get me out of ALL of my positions right now. Take me into stables
ASAP! Sell everything into USDC!!!!

Ad if you can do the above two then why not:

Show me all of the new tokens on Base in the past 36 hours that have
a market cap of between $40k and $300k and they have the word
AI in the name. And they have more than 3k twitter followers.

Part of the reason we can achieve this is because blockchains are such bad DB. You need to have one if not two data layers indexing the L1 and structuring the data in a useful and easily accessible manner. Even then, an Alchemy or Covalent will not be enough and you have to setup specialized subgraphs. We can use these additional data layers to train the AI and give them access all of the data they need to answer your difficult questions like; how much gas did I spend on Ethereum last month. By the way, you probably don’t want to know the answer to that question.

These are the goals that Armor has for our AI powered web3 wallet. Part Rainbow wallet, part trading bot and part ChatGPT. A single place for users to see all of their positions and execute complex trades simply with a chat interface or voice command.

Lofty goal, yes. But very achievable with the tech where it is now. I’ve built a few wallets and dApps and I’ve learned a lot from them now it’s time to make typical non-custodial wallets a thing of the past. Let’s put to rest the era spreadsheet investing.

Welcome to the era of AI power web3 assistant as a wallet.
