There’s no better way for a team to come together than over a hot meal and good conversation. On Oct. 4, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County kicks off its second annual Meet & Eat community engagement series, where residents will have an opportunity to talk with city and county employees about the future of our region.

At each free event, attendees will have a chance to learn about city and county services and programs available to the community and give feedback on our identified priorities. Community feedback will be used to shape investments in the fiscal year 2020 budget.

City Manager Marcus Jones welcomes the community to the 2017 Meet & Eat Engagement Series.

Last year, residents met with and department directors from each city department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library. This year, Mecklenburg County will be on hand to register attendee for social services, and provide information on their senior nutrition and low-income energy assistance programs.

Mecklenburg County will also staff resource tables to share information on:

Evictions and serving papers through the Sheriff’s department

Workforce development programs for non-custodial parents

Services available for veterans, intimate partner violence survivors and the homeless

2019 Mecklenburg County revaluation process

Universal pre-K

Screenings for blood pressure and A1C3

There will also be guest hosts and performances by community organizations at some locations. Each session will take place from 6–8 p.m. at the following locations:

Oct. 4: Albemarle Road Recreation Center (5027 Idlewild Rd. North)

Oct. 9: Arbor Glen Outreach Center (1520 Clanton Rd.)

Oct. 11: Sugaw Creek Recreation Center (943 W. Sugar Creek Rd)

Oct. 18: Elon Recreation Center, (11401 Ardrey Kell Rd)

Oct. 23: Innovation Barn (932 Seigle Ave) (Parking available at 1105 Otts St)

Oct. 25: Ivory/Baker Recreation Center (1920 Stroud Park Ct)

Last year, the event served more than 600 attendees at locations throughout the city. Dinner will be served, and child-friendly activities will be available while you network. An employee-only Meet & Eat session will be announced in the coming weeks.
