Ever wanted to run or walk on one of the country’s busiest airport runways? Now is your chance to join us for the Runway 5K at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. The Runway 5K is an annual race held by the Airport, and this year it features CLT250 in celebration of our city’s 250th anniversary.

About the race

Runway 5K is family-friendly and is a great chance for aviation enthusiasts to get an up close and personal view of the airport and commercial planes. The course is both wheelchair accessible and baby stroller friendly, and promises a great time for both runners and walkers.

New this year, proceeds from the Run will benefit the Airport Opportunity Scholarship through Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), which will assist Charlotte-Mecklenburg high school graduates who are interested in aviation careers.

How to register

If you are interested in participating, you need to register ASAP. Registration ends at noon on Friday, Oct. 26. Family and friends or spectators are invited to watch for free, but need to register before the race for security purposes.

The race is $35 to register as a walker or runner.

Where to park

All parking will be offsite at 2605 Water Ridge Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28217. Runners and spectators will be bused to the starting line starting at 5:30 a.m. The last bus to the start line will be at 7:30 a.m. Buses to the parking lot postrace will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will run continually back and forth.
