The reconstructed timeline runs along the top of the walls with the line drawing panels leaning below

Eunjoo Hong’s exhibition Almost Certain deconstructs the plots from several popular Korean television dramas and reconstructs the fictional characters’ timelines into one seamless timeline. This timeline is visualized both as a linear timeline that wraps around the top portion of the walls as well as in a series visualized line drawings on wooden panels.

On first glance, these line drawings almost had a paint-by-numbers aesthetic, but soon I realized that these numbers corresponded to a text piece that described the event in the image. Through rearranging and merging together these characters’ stories, Hong highlights the manufactured nature of these dramas that have captured the attention of millions of Korean and international viewers.

The line drawings are numbered with a corresponding text.

Eunjoo Hong, Almost Certain at Audio Visual Pavilion closes July 26. http://audiovisualpavilion.org/
