The IntimART Series on Art Cured presents:

Sophmetries by Sof Cia

The second artist presented as part of the #IntimARTseries is the Sof Cia. Based in London with roots in Florence and having lived in New York, Sof Cia’s journey in expression through performance art has borne exhibits at the Tate Exchange, Apiary Studios as well as the Lethaby Gallery.

Art Cured aims to break down Sof Cia’s process and brings you insight into the compelling ways that she uses her body as a tool of creation. In her latest performance project, “Sophmetries”, she investigates the value of the female body in a hyperconnected and charged society. She uses uses body art, technology, and acrylic paint to do so.

Inspired by Yves Klein’s Anthropometries (1960), Sophmetries is a an experience of the senses where Sof Cia differentiates and draws a correlation between her existence as a physical body — and her existing as a woman.

Sof Cia continues to describe the unfamiliar way in which she feels the paint on her skin, heightening her awareness of her physical self outside of the social conventions dictating what it means to be a woman.

At first glance, Sof Cia’s prints have an uncanny resemblance to the outline of the human chromosome. This signifies/parallels her exploration of femininity and individuality at a microscopic vs. macroscopic level.

Demonstrating the female body as a medium of art capable of movement, Sof Cia establishes proximity between the subject and the viewers, ultimately posing the question: “How close am I to authenticity?”
