IntimART Series

Intimacy + Art = ?

What makes Art intimate?

Art is an experience that is not restricted to the visual medium it is often a language of the soul. It’s something that is so intricately put together by the artist and sometimes, even completed with the audience’s involvement and observation. By conjoining the soul’s yearning for expression and the physical and tangible capability of producing art, we find an intersection that should be handled gently.

The Foundations of #IntimART

#IntimARTseries is a series which aims to identify the artist’s purpose and understand the passion behind their art as a form of intimacy. Intimacy is a concept that centers around vulnerability, freedom of expression, depth and openness.

Art Cured seeks to delve into the artist’s character by understanding the tools and manifestation of their creative expression. Art can also be quite a chaotic force - that can be met with external resistance if the reception is mishandled. Trusting another individual with the nuances of your art is a big deal, and hence the transfer of such information and an exchange of passion at this level is bound to enhance the intimate bond between the two people.

The series serves to use visuals as well as word to represent what the artist stands for. The artist trusts Art Cured with the ideas that birthed their projects, their challenges, their inspirations, as well as their aspirations. To be able to process this, and handle it to begin with is an intimate act and the #IntimART series serves to highlight that enhancement which can otherwise go unnoticed.

Intimacy, not a Physical Act

Intimacy is regarded as purely a physical act to most, it is not something that people would use to describe their platonic bonds because the word itself has been tainted by romantic implications. Let us deconstruct that in this article, to encourage closeness in a rapidly expanding world, and capture what makes each other’s souls happy. The intimacy diagram pictured below by Alyssa Marie Wellness on Instagram highlights the intersection between different types of intimacy.

Art allows individuals the space to share what is difficult to share, outside of art. For this, artists’ vulnerabilities should be honoured, and seen as gifts to one another as we work on strengthening bonds of communication and understanding the layers that the artist is trying to demonstrate to us through trust.
