There are so many great tools out there for independent filmmakers that this superabundance has created two great difficulties:

1) Too many options (Which to choose? Which to use first? How to keep tools from getting in the way of creative endeavors?)

2) Finding and keeping up with all of the opportunities that exist.

I’m going to address the first of these problems at a later date, but right now I wanted to address the second by looking at five great (and little-known) tools independent film/video makers can use to build their careers. (Looking for even more? Check this out.)

Crowdfunding & Video/Internet TV Platforms

Mobcaster

By combining a crowd-funding platform with an online television channel, Mobcaster is the first and only place to find original, independent, audience-supported television shows.

PivotShare

Join the world’s first open subscription video network. Make more money and expand your audience with Pivotshare. We help you sell premium video directly to your audience. Our digital distribution tools help you leverage an existing audience or grow a new one. It’s easy and it works across a ton of devices.

Reel>Feed

Our audience represents a wide and varied group of consumers hungry for engaging video. The Reel Feed™ and Ippy™ distribution networks optimize viewing experience for both short and long form content. Through our multiple touchpoints, we promote and monetize your video via our global ad-supported network. We serve in excess of 50 million unique users per month and our audience is growing daily.

Seed & Spark

There are a lot of ways for filmmakers to get their films into the hands of their fans, as well as to crowd fund their films, but there are very few that provide a platform that is substantially different. Seed & Spark is a crowdfunding platform that was created specifically for filmmakers.

We are a supportive crowdfunding platform, meaning that we help you launch a campaign that has the best chance of success. We’re here for you every step of the way. We work with all film and film-related projects. We love genre films, web series, film festivals, and anything in service of getting films made and seen.

Tubestart

Tubestart is a lot more than just a crowdfunding platform. Tubestart is a content and audience development solution for digital video creators and filmmakers. We offer innovative tools like Hands Free Reward Fulfillment, Sponsored Rewards, Co-Funding and the best hands-on support to help make your crowdfunding project a success.

Hopefully you found at least one or two platforms that you were previously unaware of, and that may prove useful! What tools and resources do you use that you’ve found important to your film/video making career? What kinds of tools and resources would you like to see more of?
