It’s 2017, surely the social media sector is well and truly saturated right?

Wrong.

Here comes Steller! For those of you like me, who had never heard of Steller before this post; here is a quick description.

“Steller is a free storytelling app developed by Mombo Labs, which lets you create photo and video stories with an emphasis on design.” — the next web

Launched in 2014, Steller focuses on telling a story through pictures and text. The simple yet structured layout options allow even a beginner to produce a professional standard of work.

Here are my tips!

1. Choose an engaging picture to use for your title page!

A title page for one of my stories!

Your front cover should summarise the topic and invite the reader to choose your story. By using a picture of something very tasty, my story proved to be very popular!

2. Don’t make your story too long!

Steller allows you to choose up to 20 pictures which gives you a good clue. Try not to make your story over 20 pages! If you have more to say, split your story into parts.

3. Use text!

What sets Steller apart from other apps such as Instagram is that it is a multimodality application. Steller’s focus is on the story. By adding text to your pictures you can create something truly unique. It also allows for a very aesthetically pleasing story.

4. Connect with the community!

Like every social media platform, interacting with others on Steller will gain you popularity. You can like, share and republish other people’s stories into your own collections. So start liking!

5. Choose the prime time!

This one is easy! We all do it on Facebook and Twitter. Choose the best times to publish your stories to get the biggest audience. Either the 9am or 5pm rush is the best!

6. Hashtags exist on Steller too!

Just like twitter, people can search hashtags to find what they are interested in, so make sure you choose carefully. Don’t be too specific! For example, instead of saying #5thavenue put #newyork as it will be searched more.

7. Plan your story!

Some of the work on Steller is very professional, so try to keep up! If you’re going to a musuem or the seaside, have an idea of what you can write about and take appropriate pictures!

I looked at my instagram and realised I took a lot of photos of Bournemouth, so I made a stroy about where to go to get these kind of photos!

8. Post regularly!

The key to success on any social media is consistency! The more you post, the more followers you get. A post a week would be sufficient but if you can post up to 3 stories a week you’ll see your page blow up!

9. Link your Steller to other networks!

Link your Facebook! Link your Twitter! Link it to everything! The further you push your stories the better you will do.

10. SHARE. SHARE. SHARE.

This one is pretty obvious right? Share your story everywhere you can!

So what have I gained out of using Steller?

Through my experience with Steller, I have been introduced to using multimedia on social media and I love it!

The use of multimedia within social media gives the content more depth and adaptability. It allows companies and individuals to convey themselves with more than just text and pictures. By creating a story on Steller the reader is engaged into what your message truly is. Through not only text and pictures, but also videos and music people can create an experience that will stick in people’s minds. Steller offers the opportunity to produce memories.

As Steller is a relatively new social media platform it offers an opportunity to get ahead of the crowd and put your own stamp on this app.

Without any effort, the editor of Steller picked up on my stories (as the volume of users is not so large at the moment) and he republished my stories into the top 10 for Food + Drink and Places. This catapulted my stories into the Most Viewed for over 24 hours and exposed my page to more than 10,000 views.

This amazing response to my work has given me motivation to go forward with this app as it does have something special. As a writer it is a perfect platform to give your ideas a bit of class.

So what are you waiting for?

Go out and experience Steller and start telling your stories!
