Sixty Seconds With Illustrator Extraordinaire Bob Staake
How much inspiration can be packed into a 60-second interview with one of today’s modern masters of illustration?
In 1918 Woodrow Wilson was asked about the amount of time he spent preparing speeches:
“If it is a ten-minute speech it takes me all of two weeks to prepare it; if it’s a half-hour speech it takes me a week; if I can talk as long as I want to, it requires no preparation at all. I am ready now.”
I’m all about taking deep dives into hour-long podcasts. I’m a huge fan of the Tim Ferriss style interview. And maybe I’ll have my own podcast someday. But I already host a live Facebook show, and with a full load of client work, I simply don’t have the bandwidth to do more long-form content.
So I bring to you the first ever series of 60-second artists interviews.
This week, the honorable Bob Staake is in the Q&A seat.
Bob’s 2008 cover for The New Yorker commemorating Barack Obama’s election as the nation’s first African-American president was named by Time as #1 in their list of 10 Top Magazine Covers of 2008. According to The New Yorker website, it’s their most popular cover of all time.
