What’s the deal with bunnies and rainbow locks? “A Jump into Fashion” (detail) by Meg Konovska

This is piece No 18 of the “33” watercolour series by Meg Konovska (*khu-khum*, that would be… ME!).

The series consists of 33 paintings, 33 x 33 cm each. They are all created in the following manner:
• Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines
• The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour.

To top it off, each painting is accompanied by an explanation for the unsuspecting observer to consider.

I now give you

A Jump into Fashion (available)

Painting 33x33 cm watercolour on 50% cotton acid free paper, 250 gsm. Overall size with framing: 44x44 cm. Mounted behind glass with wooden frame.

Meet Mister Smee! It is likely you would be impressed by the unusual long tail and punk hairstyle of this bunny.

In fact, the explanation is quite simple. Mister Smee is merely conscious for fashion tendencies and he is wearing hair extensions which are commonly used among young ladies.

Since fashion and tendencies regarding a certain colour change too often , Mister Smee has strategically taken the move of putting all colours of the rainbow, instead of wondering which particular shade to choose.

If someone remarks that white colour is the fashionable one, the bunny would underline his own white colour and then he would point out additive colour mixing of spectral colours resulting exactly in white. Should someone criticize him it is black which is fashionable, Mister Smee is ready to answer with the models of subtractive colour mixing.

Here Mister Smee is particularly happy and is jumping joyfully like an exuberant fraction on his visit to Madrid. The reason for his excitement is that while touring around the city, he bumped into the Madrid Pride parade which is not only one of the greatest fiestas of the season, but also everyone is carrying around rainbow-coloured flags and nobody is questioning his preferred choice of style.

*Mister Smee — the name of Captain Hook’s right hand man in Peter Pan.
*Additive mixing — occurs in mixing light rays. White colour is obtained after mixing all spectral colours.
*An exuberant fraction — a phrase used by the notorious Avram Ronkov — professor in Mathematics at the Technical University of Sofia.
*Subtractive mixing — occurs in mixing pigments (dye/ paint). After mixing equal amounts of all main colours, a dark muddy colour is obtained. Black is the ideal case.
*Madrid Pride — a LGBT parade in Madrid which takes days in summer. The international LGBT flag is in rainbow colours.
