AI and recruiting routine(software development) — my opinion
Based on my friend on LI question: “how many recruitment companies are truly incorporating real AI (not meaning chatbots) in their daily business? ;) I don’t know any unfortunately but I hope that will change”
I think it’s a good question. But if we can automate a lot of rec routine — I think to create at least simple AI(few) it’s not a rocket science.
I’m open to discussion. Of course, I’m not a rec from Google, so….
All information below is related to software developers “hunting” process. Because my experience is limited only to this field.
If I forget something — please notify me.
Basic rec process is:
- Job Opening
- Selecting the recruitment source
- Job Interview
- Maybe coding challenge
- Make Offer
Job Opening
Please check how many requests handle google like “Frontend developer job posting example”. I think my point is clear. A lot of long unnecessary text just stolen from other job postings.
Recruitment sources
Basically(in a big company), sources are specified.
Job Interview
I’ll skip questions like “how you see yourself in 5 years”.
Let’s also split online interview and in-office.
Online Interview(cause you want to save time of both parties, right)
Please show me questions, that cannot be covered at Online Forms like
Google Forms or TypeForms?
in-office Interview
Basically, this interviews is just a chit-chat when you make your impression of job-seeker by your intuition and experience. This is more like psychology thing.
! Btw, we’re not talking about assessment at this point.
Coding challenge
I think it works only with low experienced developers. Because how you’ll challenge a 10+ years Software Engineer?
Make Offer
I think this part is not a problem for sure.
Just some funny stuff.
You know that 80% of Linkedin “angry” messages is about of not replying to a job-seekers?
Sales depts, Saas startups solve this problem before. You can google it like “lifecycle emails”. They implemented this because losing client can be bad for revenue. Of course, this is not a 100% similar situation but set up an automated reply to a waiting job-seeker is not a big deal(i think 2–4 hours and $40 per month max). Easy to fix solution: https://www.ifnoreply.com/
Because without replies you literally burn your user database.
I think database segmentation is another big & important topic. Because a lot of notifications looks like spam
Emails or phone calls.
Not sure, but someone is still calling.
For sure, someone still sends 5 emails for scheduled meetings(Calendly bless you)
! If you tried to hire millennials, you maybe know, that they didn’t reply fast on emails, but you can easily catch them on Messenger, right?
Do you think chatbots is not a “real” AI? I mean if chatbot was trained well, “eat” ~10k resumes and listen to 500 conversations and use NLP(natural language processing) — why it’s not AI?
