Dear CA Department of Corrections,

Fuck you. Really, fuck you. My [single]mom is a prison teacher. She has relocated many times[often in the middle of nowhere with harsh climates] to places where she has no friends/family/support just so she can continue supporting herself and making sure that I’m taken care of. She risks her life every day walking into a place where people regularly get stabbed just feet away from her. She is helping rehabilitate convicts that at one point will come back into society. She is doing work that makes a significant impact in the lives of people that really need it. It’s an incredibly difficult environment to work in, difficult enough without YOUR severe salary miscalculations.

My mother informed me today that due to an error on your end, you overpaid her salary $600/month for 2 years, and are now demanding that she pay you $14,000+ back. She is now having to sell her car to come up with the money. The prison system is a *privatized* multi-billion dollar industry. You are profiting off of racial and socioeconomic injustice. You are also profiting off of my 60 year old single mother with very little savings and almost no retirement who puts her heart into the work that she does.

If anyone has any advice on how to seek justice in this situation, please let me know. I can’t stand watching assholes treat my mom like this.
