Are you a 3 legged stool?

I am! I have 3 creative loves and I must do them all to be balanced.

I’ve written about this topic many times before but it became super clear to me today that I am most definitely a 3 legged stool.

  1. Musician. 2. Visual Artist 3. Writer/Poet.

Another phrase for this is Multi-Potentialite or Multi Creative or a Renaissance Soul, which I wrote about in this recent article:

Some say we write about what we want to know about (and are most interested in) which could explain why I write about this subject so often. HA!

Many people who have more than one creative interest in their lives feel torn or feel they have to choose just one thing which frustrates them. They don’t realize or know how to incorporate all of their creative loves into their lives.

In our culture at times it is ingrained in us to ‘pick something and commit to it’ but the research is showing that this just is not true.

You don’t have to choose just one thing, according to Barbara Sher author of the great book ‘Refuse to Choose’.

‘It is such a relief to see it in writing: a permission to do what interests you, without having to settle on that one thing, without having to spend years perfecting your skills etc. Parents tell children they have to finish what they started, they have to become an expert in something. That does not necessarily have to be that way: you can also spend time trying things out, changing the focus and interests.’ AMAZON READER

Last year it dawned on me that I am now living a 3 legged stool life!

  1. I am writing and editing my fourth book. ‘Creative People…and what makes them tick!’. (You will read about many more ‘3 legged stools in here’!)

2. I am working on painting my unique one of a kind shoes and marketing my shoe business called: ARTISTIC SHOES FROM THE SOLE. www.etsy.com/shop/michellemonetart

3. I am rehearsing music and planning some recording projects.

(Damn. It took me to age 55 to figure this shit out!!?)

It feels like at age 55 this is the perfect and balanced fulfilling life to me. — To do all three of my talents.

When I’ve done only one or two of these things in my life (which has been often) there always seemed to be something missing — a bit like an un -sturdy stool that was wobbly — not as balanced as it should be.

It’s like putting too much weight or emphasis on one of the three legs which also makes the stool feel unsteady.

Have you ever wondered why something just feels ‘off’ in your life? This could be why.

I just came to this awareness today. This is one reason I just love writing!

Yippeee! A 3 legged stool life. Bring it on!

Here is a poem I just wrote about this:

3 legged stool

I took time off to write
then to make some shoes
Now I want to sing again
sing away the blues?

Three distinctive passions
Art, Writing and Song.
A 3 legged stool
Yep that is me
Hey theres nothin wrong!

I like diverse expressions
Fun cre — a — tiv — -it-eeee
Hey I just figured all this out
Age 55. YIPPEE!!
