The Lean Startup is a great book. A lot people already know this.

But now that I’ve finished it, I have to say I’m surprised. For as many people who say they’ve read the book, I don’t see many people in my life following it’s philosophies.

My new favorite book (written by Eric Ries)

For those who haven’t read it, I’ll try to summarize what I’ve understood the message to be. Basically it’s bringing the scientific method into your business. You come up with a hypothesis you’d like to test based upon your assumptions in your business, you build a way to test that hypothesis, you measure it, and you learn from what you’ve done. As simple as that.

In life this means we should all be looking to test new ideas constantly, because it’s the only way to learn from the real world.

There are far too many people who think they already have great ideas, and theres no need for validation. This is wrong. Ideas need to be questioned.

It’s time we all make more of an effort to start challenging our assumptions and search for the truth.

PS- I’m so glad I’ve finally read The Lean Startup — and it’s time to buy some extra copies for Christmas gifts.
