I caught myself.
You ever do that?
My daughter had temporary tattoos for Saint Patrick’s day and she asked me if I wanted one. I was engrossed in something important (like writing a social media post, ho-hum…) and I quickly said no.
And that’s when I caught myself. I was being too adult. Too responsible and busy. I quickly dismissed an opportunity to play and be like a kid. But I immediately reversed course and asked her to show me what designs she had.
I choose a gold horseshoe. Lucky to have a moment to be silly with my daughter.
How often do we miss the opportunity to play or have fun? The opportunity to indulge in beauty or joy, just because?
That’s part of why I love creating art. The act brings me joy and it forces me to be fully present. And then it becomes a gift, to myself and others.
Maybe today is a great day for you to play. Create something of your own just because. Have a new experience. Take that trip. Get on the floor and be silly with your kids or grandkids. Go see that animated movie even though you don’t have kids. View some art that brings beauty, joy and play into your life!
