A quick catch up if you’re just joining in: the last few posts, I shared an inside look into my new series “Uniform Pets”. I’ve been sharing the insights and inspiration behind each piece. You can see my previous posts for my inspiration on the Police German Shepherd, the Girl Scout — Chihuahua, Firefighter Aussie Shepherd and Doctor Labrador Retriever.

The series as a whole came about as I was thinking about how we identify and categorize, specifically, dress code pertaining to jobs/organizations, as well as breeds of pets.

Most of the time, we don’t think about these connections. They are part of the operating system that runs below the surface. In this series, I hope to make viewers stop and think more about these connections and assumptions.

When I was younger I admit to a bias against “executives”. Maybe it was one too many movie where the power player was this smarmy, cocky, know-it-all who was out for just one thing — his own ambition and advancement (Gordon Gecko anyone?). We’ve all seen those types, right? And they seemed to make my skin crawl, along with the stereotypical used car salesmen, and ambulance chasing lawyers.

But as I got older, I realized that I was making gross generalizations. Not ALL executives are like that. I was playing into an unfair bias. There are in fact many executives who are leaders with integrity — high capacity, driven people from whom we can learn.

I think pit bulls suffer from the same unfair bias. (Note not “Pitbull’ the rapper. That’s a completely different blog post.) They’ve had one too many bad PR moments. And people categorized them all as “bad”. I know of a few people who have pit bulls as pets. They’ve been fine, family friendly dogs. Have there been cases of aggression and attacks? Sure, but to categorize them all based on a few news reports is unfair.

So this portrait is dedicated to the pit bull and the executive, who at times have been misunderstood.

This piece was digitally painted using my iPad Pro, and app called Procreate and Photoshop on my Macbook Pro.

It’s available in 3 options:

Deluxe Matted 8x10 giclée art print (final size 11x14)
Gallery Wrapped 16x20 Canvas
Gallery Wrapped 24x30 Canvas (Limited Edition — 250)

Do you know someone who would love this? Share it with them. Or better yet, why not get one as a gift to show your appreciation!
