Many of us know the phrase “cloud computing,” and in fact has become a household term by now. We use it to describe a myriad of remote computing operations and its taken a role as a blanket term. On the most basic level, cloud computing is the practice of using remote servers hosted by an internet connection to store, share, and manage data. Think of it as a virtual filing cabinet, but with nearly limitless drawers. Up until the early 2000s, “the cloud” was only a term used to express the empty space between user and provider; today we know it as prime real estate for storing information.

More than anything else, business benefit from incorporating cloud usage into their operations. 42% of companies attribute 50% or more of their business through cloud-based apps and enterprises invest an average of $1.62 million into cloud computing. Many business prefer a hybrid computing platform, being a mixture of both private and public features. This gives business leaders the means to control, yet also observe data.

For many businesses, the benefits of using cloud computing are immeasurable; data and analytics storage and instant access to company resources just scratch the surface. Take a look at this infographic for more on the cloud, its past, present, and future impacts on business and communication.
