Krazy Glue’s Viral Christmas Tree

This week’s digital marketing success story is of course about a Christmas marketing stunt by Krazy Glue involving:

  • A Christmas tree.
  • A few drops of Krazy Glue.
  • 200 lb. plus ornaments.

NOTE: No fingers were glued together in the hanging of these ornaments.

What Can We Learn From Krazy Glue: How a product demo goes viral.

Example: Krazy Glue created the kraziest (sorry, I had to) Christmas tree I’ve ever seen and put it in New York City’s Liberty Plaza.

Apparently, a few drops of Krazy Glue can hold a full size ping pong table, foosball table, go-kart and more to a Christmas tree.

Why Was This Krazy Christmas Tree Stunt Effective?

1.3 million views may small to deem something as viral compared to other YouTube videos, but in the context of a super glue company’s product demonstration, it’s a high number.

Most importantly, when you see only a few drops of Krazy Glue hold up a 1980’s style arcade game, you are not repairing that college alumni mug with any other adhesive.

The Bigger Picture: An Example of Product Storytelling at its Finest

When a company nails product storytelling, it does several things but two stand out:

  1. Entertains — Did you see that tree?!
  2. Informs — Krazy Glue can hold up a full size drum set.

Good storytelling is difficult but powerful. It’s why Casey Neistat is huge on YouTube and how Shonduras became a Snapchat star.

I certainly don’t have all the answers on how to tell a great story but that’s why krazy (sorry again) examples are important. If Krazy Glue can make a super glue product demonstration go viral, what kind of outrageous product demonstration do you have up your sleeve?

I share social media basics and success stories, press the heart button if Krazy Glue’s Christmas tree was the first time you have seen with a go-kart held up by super glue.

Even though I write this on every post, thanks for reading.
