Millennials and younger adults use more online streaming service that older generations, but they’re also more likely to go the movies. In fact, frequent moviegoers often own more technology, including more ways to stream video, than the rest of the population. In 2017, Americans went to the movies more than double the times they went to theme parks or sporting events. Trips to the cinema are still a popular luxury for most Americans, here’s why:

Affordability

Perhaps the number one reason that visiting the movie theater remains popular is its affordability. Compared to sporting events and theme parks, seeing a movie at a luxury theater costs a fraction of the price. And purchasing professional-quality home theater equipment costs almost double what it would cost a family of four to go to the theater every month for a year.

Luxury

Movie theaters are getting more luxurious every year. With extra large, adjustable recliners, dine-in theaters with a full restaurant menu, and theaters with full service bars, you can get dinner and movie all in one place.

The seating isn’t the only thing that’s improving the movie theater experience. Digital screens and 3D technology present a higher quality picture, while new laser projection technology offers more vivid color and twice the brightness of other screens. At the same time, 64 speaker surround sound creates an immersive experience as sound travels around the room with the movie.

Blockbusters

Over the last 10 years, the number of movies released in the U.S. has grown over 22%, and box office revenues reach a record high in 2017. In the past five years, 6 of the top ten highest grossing movies were released. Anyone looking to see the next big hit will be going to the movies.
