When possible, add art to your life. That is my advice for today, and tomorrow. But it can be hard to implement. Adding creativity and imagination requires a conscious effort to see things differently than you saw them yesterday.

If you see more art in life, your quality of life — and quality of work — will IMHO improve tremendously.

Here are 10 “Art of…” stories to help you inject art into work and life.

The Art of Business by RAHUL DAS

This one opens with one of the great Andy Warhol quotes: “Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.” Read more business stories.

The Art and Psychology Behind Every Portrait by Caleb Hale

As they say, ‘Why you don’t enjoy having your picture taken may be the exact reason you need to do so.’ Using examples like Winston Churchill and Henry Kissinger, the author argues how a portrait can provide a truthful 3rd person perspective of yourself. Read more psychology stories.

The Art of the Hook by Hugo Perez

Did you know that dogs, chimps and even goldfish (!) have longer attention spans than the average human? (8 seconds via NY Times) In story creation, this makes the art of executing a hook all the more difficult. Read more stories about storytelling.

In this it’s-never-been-easier-to-create-content-era, does the cream really rise to the top? Or do dead fish as well? In the Art of Branding, the Voice is Everything by Nicolas Cole

‘Where a whole lot of brands go wrong is they think the goal of a brand voice is to be liked by everyone,’ states the author. Authenticity is what resonates, and what resonates is what creates a brand. As you publish what gets closer to your truth, your personal brand will grow.

The Philosophy of BTS: K-Pop, Pop Art, and the Art of Capitalism by Heidi Samuelson

In capitalism, everyone is trying to make money off you. Even the laws you have to follow were probably bought by a lobby,” argues the author. Music — as it’s so readily available — is a very educational industry to examine if you want to learn more about capitalism’s implications upon creators. Plus you know, K-POP! The Art of Feedback by Vlad Lokshin

This one starts with a micdrop. “Feedback is one of the only “Free Lunches” you’ll ever get in life. It costs you nothing. What’s even more beautiful about feedback: you have the power to decide what you eat and what you don’t.” And it ends with brief and practical about how to better give and receive feedback. Read more stories about feedback.

The Art of Storytelling by Brian Park

This 2015 story is a great reminder of the golden rule — start your storytelling by treating people as human beings. It walks a line between the story of his company and the story of his company’s customers — anyone who’s grown a business knows that that is an art. Read more stories about storytelling.

The Art of Happily Ever After by Hugo Perez

Between writer and reader, there can be happiness. Whether it’s an email, a book, a blog post, a memo, a sign, or a post it note — your writing style can evoke the message. Make your reader happy. Read more stories about happiness.

The details make the work. The details make the life. Allow your details to be creative choices. Until next time —

Kind Regards,

David Smooke, @AMI
