The Perfect Cocktail of Yoga, Art, and Social Media.
I “met” Lara Alexiou through Instagram around 2 years ago when one of her photos inspired me to create some art.
I was looking for interesting human form poses to draw, when I came upon some yoga posts. This began a long standing series of yoga art in my daily drawings (you can read more about it here.)
Soon after the initial encounter with Lara, she commissioned me to create some custom yoga art, and we followed each other’s activity on Instagram.
Earlier this year, while assembling things for my book “The Art of Yoga”, I invited Lara to be featured in my book, and used her portrait for the cover as well.
Fast forward a few months. I was invited to join Lara’s community at Steamtown Yoga, in Scranton, PA for the 11th anniversary cocktail party— where we finally met in person, taking social media connections into real life.
Her & her husband Yanni are kindred spirits. They even purchased the acrylic painting (which I recreated from my digital art) to proudly hang in the studio. I also had the privilege of live sketching, and bringing my art to her group for the party.
This all happened because one day, about six and half years ago, I decided to show up for my art, and then to keep showing up. When you take chances and risks, opportunities arise, and new relationships form. You not only get to bless, but to be blessed.
So what about you?
What opportunities and relationships are just around the bend, waiting for you to put in the daily work of showing up? You just might be surprised what happens when you open yourself up to it!
