Where are Centaurs today? “To Victory!” (detail) by Meg Konovska

This is piece No 20 of the “33” watercolour series by Meg Konovska (*khu-khum*, that would be… ME!).

The series consists of 33 paintings, 33 x 33 cm each. They are all created in the following manner:
• Randomly make 33 dots on the blank sheet, with eyes closed
Connect the dots in a complete contour, without intersecting lines
• The resulting silhouette is developed in a sketch which is completed in colour.

To top it off, each painting is accompanied by an explanation for the unsuspecting observer to consider.

I now give you

To Victory! (available)

Painting 33x33 cm watercolour on 50% cotton acid free paper, 250 gsm. Overall size with framing: 44x44 cm. Mounted behind glass with wooden frame.

The picture shows a young warrior Horsetauress leading First Horsetaur’s battalion into battle against the Centaurs.

Horsetaurs are the same as Centaurs, just with less racial complexes. They do not mind calling themselves by the obvious — namely, that they are half-horses, and they are proud of it.

Centaurs are overall much more touchy, quarrelsome and pretentious. That is why they invent what to nibble about.

The above-mentioned Centaur-Horsetaurs wars were regularly started by Centaurs’ initiative because according to Centaurs, Horsetaurs were traitors. Horsetaurs would often withstand and prevail to victory but at a certain point they had enough of it and sailed beyond the Grey Seas where they lived in harmony with the Elves*.

Centaurs remained in the world of Humans and were subsequently exterminated to the last one.

A notorious example of Centaur abuse is Hercules’s tutor — Chiron the Centaur, smashed hard with his guitar on the head by Hercules after Chiron’s remark about the hero’s poor musical talents.

Some rumours have it that in the midst of the Tilliley forests Centaurs still live but they are so terrified by the human kind that they aim to avoid contacts at all costs.
