Last year, I finished a marketing strategy plan for an artist which I work with Roland at Unorthodox Martians Records and I wanted to try something new before the album release to build hype.

I was reading tons of articles and came to the conclusion that I wanted to do a case study more so for personal use of future campaigns while building hype more specifically and more effectively “Word of mouth”.

I decided to choose twenty people who were interested in his genre of music (Christian Rap) and to see which was an effective method of reaching out to them and making them fans and the difficulty level of doing so.

I turned to social media as I usually do. I composed a simple post “Anyone listens to Christian Rap and would like to give me advice”?

After, finding 20 people who were interested in participating in my experiment. I reached out to them introducing myself first and the artist I was working with ‘Roland’ and thanking them for their time and interest.

Out of the first 10 people, 80% listened to the music when I asked how they were doing, introducing myself, and engaging with them in any way I could 20% of those 10 people didn’t.

Only 5% listened when I didn’t do so and 75% replied to the first message of me just sending the link to the music but didn’t listen and 20 % didn’t reply to the message or listen to the music.

Not only did the 80% group listened to the music also bought the album and/or subscribed to Roland’s mailing list even after they were given a free download.

Altogether 60% of the people I messaged listened/bought the album or subscribed to Roland’s mailing list.

I learned this a while ago but I understood in a different way when I chose to experiment myself. ENGAGEMENT & BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS is and always will be the key to successful marketing. -Tweet This!

Giving people respect and attention makes them feel the need to want to pay you back and simpler and usually cheaper it’s with their attention. — Tweet This!
