What makes recording labels sign artists?
Most us know that major recording labels are no longer really signing artist and developing them as they use too and aren’t really focusing on talent.
Recording labels are mainly interested in a few things the main two is “FAN-BASE” and a brand’s (which is the artist) potential to sell whether it be music, merch, or etc.
FAN-BASE: If your brand has no value, it’s very hard to negotiate because there’s no real benefit to the other party. You build value when your brand is able to generate revenue and you usually do that when you have an audience or fan-base to sell your products too so focus on your fan-base.
SOCIAL MEDIA: Believe it or not many recording labels first place they look when considering signing an artist is social media so make sure your social media is active and that you are continuously trying to build a following and the reason why they check social media is simple it gives them an idea on how strong your brand is.
MUSIC: Yes, there are many artists who are arguably untalented but they know how to make music that is catchy and is of quality….QUALITY OVER QUANTITY is the rule to remember.
POTENTIAL TO SELL MUSIC: This is one of the most important to not only labels but the media as well it keeps their brand strong and their pockets safe when they know that you can sell records and merch it’s a less risky investment.
To sum it all up, recording labels are making very precise and smart decisions nowadays when signing talents and if you are interested in signing with a label you have to make sure you catch their attention and the ways above is things you should consider.
