Who I’ve Been On Social Media

My social media journey reeks of change. This is who I’ve been:

1) The Skeptic. In true hipster fashion, I went off the grid and deleted all my social media. I thought I was wasting my time with it. But I was sucked back in because of fomo. And once I was back on the grid, it took me a while to recognize that social media was making a positive impact.

2) The Bystander. I’ve been in this role the majority of my social media life. The Bystander is present on social media, but doesn’t take part in the action. Just kicking back and observing, which can be good or bad. An example of the good would be observing social media influencers with plans of emulating them. An example of the bad would be creeping on your ex.

3) The Distributor. The Distributor is someone who shares work created by others. Once I broke out of my Bystander shell, this role was the logical next step for someone scared to stand out. I’m a fan of the Distributor. It allows me to share my interests and what I’ learning.

4) The Creator. The Creator is someone who creates their own work and shares it on social media. I was hesitant to take on blogging. What did I have to say? But I gave it a shot because other Creators were helping me. The hardest part was taking the leap. And when I finally did, I loved it. I found I had something to say. That everyone does. That the chance to make a difference was at my fingertips all along.

The roles above aren’t mutually exclusive. We can be any combination of them. I like a combination of the Bystander, Distributor, and Creator.

But the role of the Creator was the one that made all the difference. I wouldn’t have found it without change. And without change, I wouldn’t find what I love.

Thanks so much for reading! If you enjoyed this article, I would love it if you could share it with someone.
