Opera by Handel

Handel was quite the fellow, writing operas by the handful until they fell out of favor, and oratories became the rage and so he had to amuse himself by writing The Messiah. Last night we saw the Pittsburgh Opera’s production of Ariodonte. The music was sublime, the set ingenious. I am not an opera buff, in that I don’t really know much about it. I just like to go and let it all wash over me. Most of my opera going has been getting standing room tix at the Met in NYC, and those productions are ginormous. If there is a way to get a live camel or donkey or elephant on stage they will find room…
