The Antidote to Ableism is Autistic Pride
Autistic Pride is radical acceptance of our status and radical resistance to the status quo.
I wrote this piece in the middle of the night in my parents’ east Toronto home during the summer 2020 heat- and pandemic-wave. Weeks earlier, my spouse kicked me out of our cramped apartment with words carefully calculated to kill our marriage: “you’re nothing but a drain on me.”
He was technically correct: My four-figure income was dwarfed by his $50K/year.
