A.I. Replacing Workers
So far, most research does not present the idea that peoples jobs will be suddenly replaced by artificial intelligence but it is one idea that people worry most about when new advanced technology is introduced in the workplace.
A.I. Experiment
In an experiment with an online game that is powered by artificial intelligence, Joseph Oppee tested the computer’s ability to learn from the games. In these 20 question games, where the computer asks questions in order to figure out the correct answer, the computer would learn from either winning or losing the games. The computer would analyze the questions it asked and the answers it received, from that it would decide what answers to ask or not ask in order to guess the correct answer. This showed that artificial intelligence could learn and gain a predictive ability which could rival a human at a job that requires that simple skill.
To conclude what he learned from his experiments Joseph said, “In situations where prediction is a component, humans may be replaceable. Rather than taking a job though, it may reduce the load on the existing workers” (2018). In other words, artificial intelligence will not replace the worker but increase his efficiency by reducing the work load. I think this applies to many jobs that fear its replacement from artificial intelligence. In many ways artificial intelligence and technology help the worker be more productive and efficient and do not or cannot replace them entirely.
The Reality of A.I.
To summarize the whole blog post Joseph said, “What I can apply from that report is the idea that the progress is manageable. While a dramatic change from where it started, the application of the technology still is not enough to outright replace a human in many of the decisions that need to be made” (2018). In other words, the progress and advancements in artificial intelligence is manageable for the workers it will impact. This shows that artificial intelligence will aid workers with more experience that will utilize the technology and that it will not replace them overnight leaving them jobless.
