What is Curiosity?
The Impulse Towards Better Cognition !!
One factor limiting human understanding of Curiosity is the lack of a widely agreed upon delineation of what is and is not curiosity.
Curiosity IS a basic element of our cognition but its biological function, mechanisms and neural underpinning is poorly understood.
A very broad definition of curiosity could be:
“Any mechanism that guides an organism towards new information” Baldwin.
The mechanism of any behavior is in a device that produces it =the brain.
Instead of having to depend on a certain definition of curiosity it’s helpful to consider curiosity as a motivation for human information seeking behavior.
That’s why it’s utterly important to have this skill in mind as we race towards a Web3 state filled with exciting AI Tools and maybe some kind of AGI.
Above and beyond humans are born with a strategic benefit of exploration, we have a tendency to seek out new and unfamiliar options, which can offer more information than familiar ones.
