Autumn Rising — Original Abstract Art by Ravyne Hawke

Medium — Paul Rueben’s Oil Pastels
Paper — Paul Rueben’s Hot Pressed Watercolor paper 9x11 in

In this piece, I concentrated on creating harmony with warm autumn colors, but I also deliberately wanted to separate them with the thick black lines. Autumn here in Tulsa never comes in all at once, and depending on how much rain we receive during Summer, sometimes the best we can hope for is dull greens, yellowed, or burnt umber colors on the trees. But sometimes, we will also get bursts of glorious reds, especially on maple trees. I created the larger blocks with two shades of red, allowing for some optimism.

As Autumn is my favorite season, I will likely do more Autumn-themed pieces over the next few weeks — maybe not always abstracts. I am quite pleased with this piece. It will get framed and hung on my wall soon.

Autumn Rising

As the heat and humidity
of Summer’s last fling
hangs thick in the air
I inhale your essence, just there
on the precipice of my longing

Will you rise to burst with fire
or slowly creep in, dull and listless
heavily burdened by too little rain?
