Books Celebrating Milestone Anniversaries in 2025 You Need to Read
Add these to your TBR pile
There are a number of books celebrating milestone anniversaries this year, and while I will surely write full-blown reviews/retrospectives of several over the next eleven months (as I did recently with Less Than Zero here), it is also a near certainty that I will forget some that I should not have. This fact was driven home to me at the end of 2024 when I almost let the entire year pass before finally remembering to write about the 60th anniversary of Ernest Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast. If this can happen with one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors, it will certainly happen again.
In an effort to mitigate the effects of my diminished memory, below are seven books you should read this year in honor of the anniversary of their first publication.
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh (1945). If you only know Brideshead Revisited from the excellent 1981 miniseries starring Jeremy Irons (or don’t know it all), you need to read this one. It follows the journey of main character Charles Ryder from agnostic to believer in a way that weaves seamlessly into the story (unlike the heavy-handed, mini sermons that dominate “Christian fiction” today). In some ways, it’s a Christian version of my favorite novel, The Razor’s Edge.
