My Current ‘I Must See These Cities Before I Die’ Travel Bucket List
Time is running out
A recent story by the intrepid Rodrigo S-C about his latest bucket list has had me thinking for the past few days. What is my own bucket list now as I sit here in the wilds of East Texas, 25 minutes from the nearest fast-food joint and hours from what any normal person would consider civilization? Has it changed since the last time I seriously considered it, now that I am even closer to the end of the race than I’ve ever been?
The answer has surprised me. My bucket list has always been a short one: own a bookstore, preach the gospel in a foreign land, write a novel, date Kate Beckinsale, and be a roadie for the E Street Band. I’ve already accomplished the first three, a restraining order still stands between me and Kate, and I’m not sure I could actually lift Garry Tallent’s bass at my age, let alone a bunch of amplifiers.
Does this mean it’s time to just sit back and watch the grass grow, content that I completed 60% of my goal? Not at all. While I may have exactly zero desire to climb Everest, run a marathon, or hike the Appalachian trail (all too strenuous), there are still things I want to see before I die, none of which are in the same time zone as the Great State of Texas.
