This is Who I Believe the Next Pope Should (and Will) Be
You heard it here first
With the conclave to elect Pope Francis’ successor (and the 266th successor of St. Peter) set to begin on May 7th, it’s the perfect time for me to weigh in on the issue. To set the proper mood, I put on a playlist of Gregorian chants, lit my Pope St. John Paul II candle, and pondered the many things I feel guilty about, all of which put me in a very Catholic frame of mind for this exercise. I see some of you nodding in agreement, so let’s move on.
My original plan was to write a humor piece about the various people I would like to see become the next pontiff, since any baptized Catholic male is technically eligible. Unfortunately, the intrepid beat me to it with this piece. I consider it a bit unfair since he was an Anglican priest who is currently a Methodist, but in an effort to be ecumenical I will not lodge a formal protest. He included Bruce Springsteen, for which he gets bonus points, but he left me off even though I laid out a fine case for my election a few years ago.
