When I last updated you, we had just discovered Montenegro and were staying in the small city of Ulçinj (Ul-chin), looking out over the Adriatic Sea. There was a lot for us to do there, and we tried to cram as much as we could into the three full days that we stayed there. I wrote about our first day—Valentine’s Day—here, so you can read that separately if you want.

Exploring Ulçinj

On the following day we tried to get ourselves to a large area south of the city that used to be huge flats for salt production. Our host told us that the area is no longer used for that but is now inhabited with hundreds of birds including Flamingos. Being the amateur birders that we are, we were keen to see this display.

Sadly, although we followed the map applications on our phones, we could not find an entrance to this area that was not gated off. It seemed that the whole area was surrounded in housing and private yards, and we walked for about two hours trying to find a point where the public could enter. Finally we gave up and retreated back to our hotel, exhausted with trying. Our host was completely perplexed and told us that it is quite easy to find the entrance. Sigh…… next…
