Hello, friends.

Have you seen the flowers? Spring is here to renew Northern Hemisphereans and relieve us all of sleepy retrogrades. It’s time for action! Exhibition! Publication! Conversation!

All these nouns are converging for Artists + Machine Intelligence at Printed Matter’s 2019 LA Art Book Fair (April 12–14 at MOCA in Los Angeles, CA). We’re working with Anteism Books to host a group exhibition of AMI-supported works and to publish a brand new monograph from Casey Reas.

The exhibition is called New Technologies, New Visions. It explores new forms of visualization made possible by ML, from portraits of imaginary subjects to machine mis-recognition, from data as a medium to the authoring of authors.

Casey Reas’s publication with Anteism and AMI is called Making Pictures
with Generative Adversarial Networks
. It’s a non-technical introduction to making picture with GANs and a relatable narration of what it feels like to make art with ML systems. It’s a sweet and classy monograph and a limited edition so come get yours.

Casey will be signing copies Saturday 4/13 at 3pm, and Mike Tyka will sign his new book Sunday 4/14 at 1pm. Both will take place in Project Room E.

Here’s another book to catch—John Brockman’s Possible Minds: 25 Ways of Looking at AI. Among its cutting-edge contents you’ll find excerpts from conversations between Hans Ulrich Obrist and Hito Steyerl, Ian Cheng, Rachel Rose and myself on the topic of AI and art.

If you can, come celebrate books (and spring!) with us in LA this month. Thank you for your attention, and thank you for co-creating with us.
